What is an Industrial Blower?

An Industrial Air blower is a blower, whose main function is to supply a huge flow of air or gas to the various processes in the industries. They are electric fans with wheels and blades to drive a current of air or gas from one point to another with certain specifications. Industrial blowers have proven to be a vital type of equipment that is built, installed, and used for a variety of work efficiency purposes.

For many centuries, it’s been used in warehouses or in everyday tasks that need a certain amount of air pressure or airflow to make something crucial happen. These industrial blowers offer much functionality like combustion, exhaust and ventilation, aeration, particulate transport, cooling, air-cleaning, drying are some of the few.

Almost every industry such as agricultural, chemical, medical, oil and gas, automotive, food processing, mining and construction use blowers for their specific purpose. Based on the application there are a variety of blowers available in the market. The blower that is purchased should be reliable which runs without issues for a long time and should not generate a lot of noise.

Industrial blowers are classified into 2 types based on the direction of the airflow, centrifugal blowers and axial blowers. Centrifugal blower uses centrifugal force generated by a rotating disk, with blades at right angles to the disk that rotates the blades. These blowers use a rotating impeller to move air first radially outwards by centrifugal action, and then tangentially away from the blade tips.

The speed increases as the air reaches the ends of the blades and is then converted to pressure. These fans can produce high pressures, which makes them suitable for harsh operating conditions, such as systems with high temperatures, moist or dirty air streams, and material handling. This blower generates a substantial volume of air with very less vibration in a confined space.

Centrifugal blowers are usually used in boiler fan, combustion blowers for furnace, rolling mill, dust collector, bag filter, suction blower, exhaust blower. The main purpose of this type of industrial blower is to create a certain amount of pressure to suck in, circulate, and release new air. It is also responsible for emitting high pressure and strong airflow from a limited amount of air/gas.

Axial blowers/Axial Flow fans use axial forces to achieve the movement of the air or gas, spinning a central hub with blades extending radially from its outer diameter. The fluid is moved parallel to the fan wheel’s shaft, or axis of rotation.

The air is pressurized by the aerodynamic lift generated by the fan blades, much like a propeller or an airplane wing. These blowers generate high airflow rates at low pressures.
They are inexpensive, compact and light. They have less rotating mass and are more compact than centrifugal fans of comparable capacity. They achieve maximum efficiency and are often used in rooftop ventilation applications.

Axial blowers are selected for simple extraction or cooling applications with very low system resistance, such as moving air from one large space to another, condenser cooling in refrigeration.
Mostly used in exhausting contaminated air or supplying fresh air, unidirectional or reversible air-flow applications, exhaust applications where particulate size is small, such as dust streams, smoke and steam.
